Introduction to Jupyter Notebooks

Welcome to this course on the Introduction to Jupyter Notebooks. In this course, we will get familiar with one of the best open-source software platforms for interactive computing. We will learn what Jupyter Notebooks are used for and explore a number of advanced and powerful features that we can leverage in our own projects. A basic familiarity with Python is assumed. It is the primary language we will use to explore Jupyter. We hope you enjoy this course as much as we loved creating it!

Task List

We will cover the following tasks in 25 minutes:

Navigating the Jupyter Console and Dashboard

In this chapter, we will explore the various navigational features of the Jupyter notebook interface. From the console, we will launch the Python browser module and explore the Dashboard. Next, we’ll run an existing notebook, navigate through each option provided on the navigational interface.

Writing and Running code

Learn how to modify, add, delete, and run cells and understand why and how to restart or interrupt the kernel.

Working with External Code

Learn how Jupyter’s kernels makes it easy to incorporate external code from sources such as the Internet and command-line.

Beyond Plain Python

Learn how to use Jupyter-specific commands for interactive object introspection.

About the Host (Snehan Kekre)

Snehan hosts Machine Learning courses at Rhyme. He is in his senior year of university at the Minerva Schools at KGI, pursuing a double major in the Natural Sciences and Computational Sciences, with a focus on physics and machine learning. When not applying computational and quantitative methods to identify the structures shaping the world around him, he can sometimes be seen trekking in the mountains of Nepal.

Frequently Asked Questions

In Rhyme, all projects are completely hands-on. You don't just passively watch someone else. You use the software directly while following the host's (Snehan Kekre) instructions. Using the software is the only way to achieve mastery. With the "Live Guide" option, you can ask for help and get immediate response.
Nothing! Just join through your web browser. Your host (Snehan Kekre) has already installed all required software and configured all data.
